FOSTER, R.I. (WPRI) - A Foster man charged in a shooting at his home late Tuesday night was ordered held following his arraignment Wednesday morning.

Police arrested David Lopes, 52, on several charges including assault with intent to murder.

Lopes is accused of shooting a Providence man several times at a home on Foster Center Rd. around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he is said to be in critical, but stable, condition. Officers have not released his name, but say he's a 32-year-old man from Bergen St. in Providence.

As of 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, police were still in the rural neighborhood investigating.

Rhode Island State Police are assisting with evidence collection. The case is under investigation.

Foster police said the town has not had a shooting for several years, perhaps as far back as 2009.
