Storm blamed for thousands of outages

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) -- The November Nor'easter was blamed for thousands of power outages overnight. At one point, more than 4,000 people were without power in the state.

As of 11:50 a.m., 892 National Grid customers were still in the dark.

For the first time this winter, snow plows have hit the pavement.

Police in Rhode Island and Massachusetts reported dozens of accidents early Thursday, with drivers sliding on the slick roads. In some Bay State towns, police said there were crashes on nearly every street.

The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority had closed the Newport Pell Bridge to box trucks and certain commercial vehicles due to gusty winds, but it's since reopened.

For passengers flying out of T.F. Green Thursday morning, only two United flights to Newark were canceled; and that was due to issues in the New York area.
