SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) -- Three suspected shoplifters are facing charges after being tracked down by State Police in Smithfield.

The suspects are accused of stealing merchandise from the Kohl's store in Smithfield Wednesday afternoon.

Smithfield Police broadcast a bulletin, asking officers to be on the look-out for a grey Honda Accord with Massachusetts plates traveling on Route 295 North.

Troopers from the Scituate barracks of the Rhode Island State Police spotted a car matching that description and followed it onto Route 99.  Police say they pulled the car over and found stolen merchandise inside.

Troopers arrested 28-year-old Stephen Benson of Norton, who was driving the car, as well as his two passengers: 31-year-old Laurabeth Degiorlamo of Taunton and 37-year-old Jeffrey Hesketh of Hyde Park, Massachusetts.

All three were scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on charges of larceny under $500.
