SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) - A public Mass is scheduled Friday to remember a young girl who was struck by a car and killed while walking on a sidewalk in Smithfield last weekend.
The special service for 12-year-old Daniela Heredia will take place at 6PM Friday at the Mater Ecclesiae Chapel at Mater Ecclesiae College in Greenville.
Heredia has just arrived from Guatemala for a camp at the college, when she and a group of girls went on a shopping outing in Smithfield last weekend. A car veered onto the sidewalk and struck Heredia, knocking her down a rocky embankment. The 12-year-old died from her injuries.
Heredia's body was taken back to Guatemala by her family this week. Her funeral took place Thursday.
