SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) - Smithfield leaders are reportedly considering a request to change the name of a town road because it is linked to the Ku Klux Klan.
According to The Providence Journal , a former Smithfield resident contacted Smithfield Town Council members numerous times recently to inform them that Domin Avenue was named after John A. Domin, a former local KKK leader.
The complainant, who now lives in Honolulu according to the report, has requested that the name of the road be changed. The town manager is reportedly considering the request, and will make a recommendation to the Town Council.
