PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Twenty-five Rhode Island cities and towns will receive $12.7 million in federal funding to develop, finance, and/or modernize public housing in their communities.
The grants were awarded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Public Housing Capital Fund Program, according to Sen. Jack Reed.
“This federal funding is a smart investment in Rhode Island that will help make needed repairs to housing units throughout the state and put more contractors, plumbers, and electricians to work,” said Sen. Reed.
Local agencies can use the funding for home improvements like replacing roofs and windows, enhancing electrical and plumbing systems, and improving lighting and security.
There are over 9,500 public housing units in the state of Rhode Island.
Public Housing Agencies in the following cities and towns will receive funding:
