Pit bull bites kids at Catholic school

Ran into schoolyard, pursued by owner

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - After a pit bull ran loose Friday in Providence, biting children, it's happened again -- only now in Pawtucket, at a Catholic school front yard.

The pit bull got loose near St. Cecelia's School Monday afternoon and jumped at and bit three children waiting to go inside, according to the Pawtucket Times.

Two teachers who saw it happen told the Times a pit bull puppy had run into the schoolyard, followed by the adult dog and then the owner.

Though the scene got chaotic, the kids had minor bites and scratches.

Pawtucket's Animal Control department has quarantined the adult pit bull - under state laws - to monitor it for rabies, and seized the pit bull puppy from the owner, Joshua Rodriguez, who now must go to city court on Oct. 13 for a hearing.

The dog will likely be impounded or destroyed once it's determined it is healthy.

It's illegal to own a pit bull in the Pawtucket city limits, with certain exceptions.

Back on Friday, a pit bull got loose in Providence when a small child accidentally let it out, and three children there got bitten too.
