Northwestern RI: Roads still dangerous

Statewide travel and parking bans remain in effect

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) -- Between the snow, wind and bone-chilling cold, conditions continue to be rough in the Northwestern part of Rhode Island.

The roads remain relatively quiet since travel and parking bans have been put in place statewide, though there's little reason to drive anyway since the majority of stores and restaurants are closed. Many have signs informing residents that they'll remain closed until the storm passes.

Our crews did spot one open Gulf gas station on Putnam Pike in Smithfield, which is critical for the plow drivers and emergency vehicles that need to fill up.
