NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) - A Burrillville man has been arrested on animal cruelty charges.
According to police, Eric Lemire, 22, killed his girlfriend's dog at her North Smithfield home.
Shortly after, police responded to the Northern Rhode Island Animal Hospital for a disturbance between Lemire and his girlfriend regarding the incident.
Lemire now faces a felony charge for the death of the dog, and a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct.
He is being held on $3,000 surety.
The dog was a small, mixed breed.
