LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) -- The turnout at a free dental clinic in Lincoln was so big that patient registration was closed for Saturday.
The Rhode Island Mission of Mercy free dental clinic is being held at the CCRI Flanagan Campus in Lincoln. Dentists and hygienists volunteered their time to treat patients on a first-come, first-served basis, and event organizers expected to treat 500 people over Saturday and Sunday.
So many people showed up on Saturday morning, that no more patients would be accepted on Saturday. Organizers estimated that 300 people were already registered for treatment as of 10 a.m.; some of those people camped out overnight to be sure they got in.
The event offers cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, X-rays, fillings, extraction, root canals and other procedures at no cost.
It was scheduled to continue Sunday morning starting at 6 a.m.
