JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- Local officials are becoming concerned about smelly gases escaping from the Rhode Island's central landfill.
According to our news partners at the Providence Journal , the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation is afraid testing to upgraded gas systems at Broad Rock Renewable's new electricity-generating plant might result in large volumes of landfill gases being released into the atmosphere.
Officials want Broad Rock to adhere to strict procedures to monitor gas levels throughout the testing.
A company spokesperson tells the paper that the Department of Environmental Management has approved its testing measures.
