BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WPRI) -- The Burrillville Police Department is alerting residents to update their phone listings with the town's CodeRED emergency notification system, designed to call every resident to spread urgent messages.

Next Monday, the department will be running a test with its current phone listings, so they advise you to go to the Burrillville town website, http://www.burrillville.org, and register your street address and primary phone number. Businesses need to sign up for the system as well as residents.

"If your contact information is not in the database you will not receive a call when an important or urgent message is sent," Burrillville Town Manager Michael C. Wood said in a news release Monday.

In particular, the town said, you should also register if you have an unlisted phone number, if your phone number has changed, or if you use a cellular phone exclusively or a VoIP or internet phone (such as Vonage or MagicJack) for your primary phone line.

All information is kept private, the town said.
