SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) – Students are back to school which means summer is unofficially over and fall is in the air.
Autumn brings many popular outdoor activities including pumpkin picking and carving and apple picking.
In Massachusetts, the apple crop is ready to harvest earlier than usual.
Orchard owners here in Rhode Island say their crops aren’t quite ready yet.
Normally, Labor Day is the traditional start to apple picking season, but this across New England the season is starting at least 10 days early.
Some orchard owners fear the public is still in summer mode and will not be ready to pick until the crop is gone.
