BOSTON, Mass. (WPRI/AP) - Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick has issued a state of emergency, after the recent downpours.

Many suburbs of Boston were feeling the affects of the rising water Tuesday, despite the dry weather.

Much like Rhode Island , the Bay State received an estimated 10 inches of rain in a three-day period.

Officials in Lawrence, Mass. are monitoring the Spicket River. It is expected to crest at 10 feet. Crews have set up barricades in an effort to protect surrounding homes and businesses from the rising waters, and many nearby residents have been evacuated as a precaution.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority says Tuesday's commute on the Green Line's D branch is being hindered by a washed out trolley track.

The MBTA says it is busing passengers between the Newton Highlands and Reservoir stations. Two bus lines are also being rerouted because of flooded roads.
