WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - Warwick police say they're getting closer to filing charges against Philip Markoff, the man believed to be the "Craigslist Killer." Markoff is accused of killing a woman in Boston after he met her on the Craigslist classified ad website. While police have said there's a definite, strong connection, progress still has to be made in building a case against him in Warwick.
"When they're ready to go, I'm sure that they'll let me and the prosecutor know... and we'll proceed from there," Col. Steven McCartney said Friday.
Police detectives expect to file an affidavit soon.
Rhode Island investigators reportedly found Markoff's fingerprints at the Holiday Inn Express, and believe he sent a text message from the area the night the attack and attempted robbery of a Las Vegas dancer happened. But they're still determining if the evidence is clear enough to file criminal charges for the incident.
Right now, Massachusetts authorities have posted their own ad on Craigslist, hoping to reach out to more victims.
Markoff pleaded not guilty to the murder charge in Boston.
Thursday, his fiancee visited him in jail. Her attorney now says the wedding is off.
