WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - A two-year-old is in serious condition after falling through a first floor balcony, 15 feet to the ground. It happened Thursday morning on Paradis Avenue in Woonsocket.
Several neighbors said they heard the toddler cry right after the fall.
"We were just at my friend's house. And we just heard this loud baby cry. And then after that, it was just silent for awhile. And then the ambulance showed up. It didn't look good when the ambulance came," said Eric Wilcox.
According to the mother of the child, the two year old came out of a window on to the flat-bed roof, about 15 feet above the point of impact.
"You hear about these things. But, actually seeing it is a tragedy," said neighbor Bob Cartier.
Code Enforcement is part of the team investigating the fall, with a focus on the missing slats on the porch railing in front of the child's apartment.
At last check late Thursday morning, the child was conscious and about to undergo a CAT scan at Hasbro Children's Hosptial in Providence.
