PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island Treasurer Frank Caprio has announced that his office will use the micro-blogging Web site Twitter to broadcast the state’s daily cash flow in real time.
Caprio says cash flow is a measure of Rhode Island’s financial health.
He says each day’s publication—or “tweet”—will highlight what money is taken in and what is paid out from the state’s general fund.
He announced Monday that the initiative is part of his pledge to make state government more transparent and accountable.
Twitter is a free social messaging site that allows users to post messages of up to 140 characters from a mobile phone or computer.
Rhode Island is facing a $370 million deficit.
