BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) - A local 14-year-old chess whiz is taking his skills overseas to compete in an international competetion.

Stewart Finney of Barrington spends two hours a day perfecting his chess game, and the results have paid off big. Just two weeks ago in Mexico he won a gold medal, and now he is headed to Turkey for an even bigger competetion.

Finney started playing in chess competitions at seven years old, and says over time not only has he crafted his game, but he has learned to keep his emotions balanced, even after a loss.

The upcoming trip to Turkey is expected to cost the Finney family thousands of dollars. A Massachusetts chess association has donated one thousand dollars towards Stewart's trip.
