(WPRI) - Fireworks are being canceled tonight in several local communities due to the rainy weather. The affected displays are in Smithfield, East Providence and Dartmouth.
UMass Dartmouth
Due to forecasts of thunderstorms throughout the day and early evening, the fireworks portion of tonight’s Bristol County Savings Bank Freedom Festival at UMass Dartmouth has been cancelled. The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra Pops concert will be held at 7:45 p.m. in the Main Auditorium. Doors to the 800-seat facility will open at 6:45 p.m.
Smithfield
The town of Smithfield announced that its Fireworks & Independence Day Celebration in Deerfield Park is no longer being held tonight. It's been rescheduled to the rain date of Monday, July 6th. The Paul Borrelli Band is scheduled to perform in Smithfield from 7 to 9 p.m. and the fireworks display is set for 9 p.m.
East Providence The City of East Providence Department of Parks and Recreation has cancelled fireworks for both scheduled times Thursday, July 2nd and Friday, July 3rd due to inclement weather conditions.
