PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A convicted sex offender is going back to prison because he failed to register as a sex offender after moving to Rhode Island from Massachusetts. A federal judge Wednesday sentenced Michael DiTomasso to 30 months in prison.
DiTomasso, 36, pleaded guilty in June. He is the first offender sentenced under the Adam Walsh Act , which is a federal law requiring sex offenders to register after moving from one state to another or after taking a job in another state.
In 1995, DiTomasso was convicted in Massachusetts for sex offenses involving minors under 16 and 14 years of age.
He moved to Woonsocket in 2007 and was required to register as a sex offender under the federal Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. However, he failed to do so and police arrested him.
