BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) - The trial for a Barrington teen accused of killing his friend by running him over with a boat is delayed again. Ryan Greenberg's case is now expected to go to trial May 26.
The trial was scheduled to start March 17. However, according to Beryl Kenyon at the District Attorney's Office, the defense requested more time to prepare for the case.
In addition, the trial has the potential to be lengthy and the court needed to be able to block off a sufficient amount of time, she said.
Greenberg is charged with second-degree murder, reckless boating with death resulting, underage posssession of alcohol and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges he faces.
According to prosecutors, Greenberg was operating a motorboat on the Barrington River on July 17, 2007 when the boat struck and killed Patrick Murphy, 17.
Murphy had been kneeboarding behind the boat.
During a previous court hearing, another teen who was on board the board testified that Greenberg pushed the throttle toward Murphy and did not steer away.
