BOSTON (AP/WPRI) - On Thursday, prosecutors depicted the man who calls himself Clark Rockefeller as a calculating father who planned his daughter’s kidnapping for months.
But defense attorneys portrayed a distraught father with psychological problems who was pushed over the edge when he lost custody of his daughter.
Both sides got the chance to outline their cases for the jury during opening statements in the trial.
Rockefeller’s real name is Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter. Authorities say he’s a German man who’s used multiple aliases since moving to the United States in 1978.
He’s accused of snatching his daughter during a supervised
visit in Boston last July after losing custody to his ex-wife.
