PROVIDENCE, RI (AP) - Prosecutors say charges against the father of a baby girl who died after being beaten will be upgraded to murder.
A spokesman for Attorney General Patrick Lynch says the suspect, 21 year old Rachin McCoy, will be brought to Newport County District Court on Tuesday morning where a first-degree child abuse charge will be dismissed and replaced with a murder charge.
Authorities say the 6 week old infant was brought to the
hospital last Tuesday with a fractured skull, two broken ribs and
other injuries. The girl died on Friday.
An autopsy is being conducted to determine a cause of
death.
McCoy at first told police that the baby fell off a bed at his Newport apartment.
