PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A former union organizer is headed to federal court where he is expected to plead guilty to charges that he was involved in a kickback scheme.
Harold Tillinghast Jr., a former organizer with the Laborers International Union of North America in Rhode Island, is scheduled to appear before U.S. District Court Judge William Smith on Wednesday for a change of plea hearing.
Tillinghast is charged with conspiracy to violate the labor management relations act and aiding and abetting.
A spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Robert Clark Corrente declined comment.
Federal prosecutors say Tillinghast and another man were involved in a scheme to win demolition work through illegal payments.
Tillinghast pleaded not guilty in November.
