NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island is seeking developers interested in building wind turbines in Narragansett to power state and town facilities.
The Department of Environmental Management announced Monday it is seeking developers to erect wind turbines at a combination of state- and town-owned sites along the seaside town.
If built, the turbines would provide power for the Port of Galilee and state-operated camping and beach facilities. Narragansett officials hope the turbines could also power a public works facility and a water treatment plant.
DEM Director Michael Sullivan said the project would help meet
Gov. Don Carcieri’s goal of getting 15 percent of the
state’s electricity needs through wind power by 2012.
Developers must submit bids by May 19.
