Providence police investigate homicide

PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI) - Providence Police and the Medical Examiner are investigating the homicide of a 32-year-old woman at the Cathedral Square apartment complex.

Residents at the apartment complex identified the victim as Jeannine Garcia. Police said they found her body early Sunday morning, after they were called to do a well-being check.

Police would not say how Garcia died, but said they do have someone in custody for questioning.

Her friends said Garcia had recently separated from her husband, and had become friends with another man. Friends said the man wanted a relationship, but Garcia was not interested.

Residents at Cathedral Square complained Sunday that security at the apartment complex was lacking. One resident said security monitors had been broken for four weeks.

Management said it plans to hold a meeting with residents Monday morning to address concerns.
