PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A Providence man has been arrested in New York City in connection with the weekend murder of his live-in girlfriend.

According to Maj. Thomas Oates III, officers were called to 573 Union Ave. in Providence's Silver Lake neighborhood to check on the well-being of a 34-year-old woman. When they arrived, Oates said officers forced entry into the apartment and found the body of Ingrid Gonzalez, 34, in her locked bedroom.

The victim was last seen alive at 11 p.m. on July 4. Gonzalez's 17-year-old son was home when police arrived on scene the next day. However, Oates said the teen didn't realize his mother was dead, as he heard no commotion.

"They got into a little spat, alittle argument, nothing really serious or anything like that. Just a pickering back and forth. Other than that from what I saw it wasn't that serious," said Lisa Connor who lives nearby.

Connor says that at times the couple seemed happy.

"They would sit outside and talk and hold hands in the front. You wouldn't expect anything like this out of them at all," said Connor.

Oates said the Gonzalez's 35-year-old boyfriend, David Tineo, a.k.a Johnny A. Tineo, was found in New York City Sunday and will be extradited to Providence on murder charges.

A check of the Rhode Island Judiciary website reveals Tineo has a criminal record, including a December 2008 arrest on simple assault domestic and larceny under $500.

According to Oates, Tineo was issued a no-contact order after Gonzalez complained he assaulted her. However, Oates said the couple continued to live together.

The homicide is Providence's eight this year.
