PROVIDENCE, R.I., (WPRI) - It was a grand opening affair on Weybossett Street in Providence
on Thursday.
After years in the making, downcity Providence finally has a
grocery store! Gourmet Heaven is now open in the heart of
Providence's financial district.
Buff Chace and his company, Cornish Associates, have tried
for years to bring their independent green grocery store to the
city. Now, their dream has become a reality. The store is on the
ground floor of Rhode Island School of Design's Fletcher
building.
It's located just blocks from three universities, hundreds of
residential lofts and a popular retail district.
The grocery store offers a full selection of groceries,
household items, produce, fruit, dairy and a deli. There are also
specialty candies and imported teas.
In addition, Gourmet Heaven will have a full kitchen
preparing hot and cold dishes daily. Before the store opened, there
were no other grocery stores in downtown Providence, making this
one critical to the area.
Along with all the food, there are seats available on a
mezzanine level and free wi--fi.
