PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The last major phase of the Iway opened to commuters in Providence Thursday morning.

Cars traveling westbound on Route 195 will now cross the Providence River Bridge to get to Route 95 North.

It's the final major portion of the 195 relocation project, which began six years ago and is estimated to have a final price tag of about $600 million. Governor Donald Carcieri and Department of Transportation officials celebrated the completion of the segment during a ceremony on Monday.

RIDOT said additional on- and off-ramps will continue to open this year and next. The demolition of the old I-195 is set to begin sometime in 2010, with the whole project wrapping up in 2012.
