PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The next time you head to the polls to vote in Rhode Island, you could be required to show a photo ID.
If it passes, a proposal on Smith Hill would enact the change over three years. The Secretary of State says the bill is intended to prevent fraud at the polls.
Voters who don't have a photo ID will still be allowed to cast provisional ballots and will be able to get a photo ID for free.
