NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) - Test results on a North Kingstown High School senior who has Rhode Island's first probable case of the Swine Flu are now expected to be known on Saturday.
The C.D.C. is testing a sample taken from the 17-year-old girl to see if she has a confirmed case of the highly contagious virus.
The student was tested for Swine Flu when she fell ill after returning from a family trip to Mexico.
Dr. Siavash Ghoreishi, the student's doctor, performed the initial test. He says Swine Flu can easily be spread.
"Let's say, if I visit a patient, and the patient coughs on me... then I go to the next patient and tough that patient, I can transfer the virus. That's the scary part," says Dr. Ghoreishi.
As a precaution, North Kingstown High School has been shut down to ensure the virus does not circulate through the student body.
As of Thursday, there were two other probable cases of Swine Flu. One is in Smithfield, the other is in Westerly. Test results to confirm whether the patients actually have Swine Flu are pending.
