NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) - Hundreds of people came together in North Attleboro Thursday night to remember fallen Marine Captain Kyle Van De Giesen .

The candle light vigil took place at Community Field, where Van De Giesen played football for North Attleboro High School.

"Kyle was a man of conviction, who valued family and country above all else," said Katie Fisher, a friend of the family.

The 29-year-old Marine captain was killed in Afghanistan last month, when the helicopter he was flying was involved in a mid-air collision . The collision remains under investigation.

Van De Giesen is survived by his pregnant wife and a daughter. His funeral is set to take place Friday.
