NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) - A Newport man recently indicted in connection with the murder of his six-week-old daughter was ordered held without bail Tuesday morning in Newport County Superior Court.
A grand jury handed up an indictment Monday against Rachin McCoy. He was in court Tuesday for his arraignment, during which he pleaded not guilty to one count of murder.
He is accused of beating his newborn baby daughter, Naomi, back in January. Police said the infant was brought to the hospital with injuries to her head, torso, arms, and legs. She later died from those injuries.
Judge Melanie Thunberg ordered McCoy held until his bail hearing Oct. 8.
