NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) - A local Portuguese sausage shop is shutting its doors after 88 years in the business.

New Bedford Linguica Co. Inc., on Davis St., has stopped production of the Fragozo family's spicy Portuguese pork sausage.

The plant manager says expensive ingredients, high fuel costs, and a decrease in demand from restaurants that are cutting back or closing are to blame.

The company employed 8 people.
