NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) - Crew members aboard the University of Rhode Island research vessel "Endeavor" got a warm welcome when they docked at the URI Bay Campus in Narragansett Wednesday morning.
The ship returned from a four-and-a-half month research expedition to Florida, Brazil and Namibia. It was one of the longest cruises the vessel had ever undertaken and its first to Africa.
The main goal of the 13-member crew was to measure ocean currents.
Endeavor, which spends an average of 240 days at sea each year, is owned by the U.S. National Science Foundation and is operated by URI's Graduate School of Oceanography. The ship was originally built in 1975 and went through a mid-life refit in 1993.
