AYER, Mass. (WPRI) - Notorious mobster Anthony "The Saint" St. Laurent has been moved from federal prison to an undisclosed hospital in Massachusetts, according to court documents obtained by Target 12.

According to St. Laurent's attorney, the reputed Patriarca crime family captain is "seriously ill."

St. Laurent is currently serving a sentence at Fort Devens Federal Prison for attempting to shake down two Massachusetts men.

Court documents reveal the 68-year-old has been moved from that prison to a hospital. The location is described as "somewhere in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts."

Attorneys testified in the past that St. Laurent suffers from kidney disease, chronic bowel failure and intestinal cancer. In fact, in a recent court proceeding, a wheelchair-bound St. Laurent appeared via video teleconference.

St. Laurent is current facing new charges, accused of twice trying to order a hit on rival "capo" Robert "Bobby" DeLuca from behind prison walls.

In the court documents, his attorney Victor Beretta asked the judge to delay any court action in that case.

"[St. Laurent] is in no position physically or mentally to have legal discussions with counsel," the document stated.

St. Laurent was scheduled for trial in the murder-for-hire plot, but that start date is now in doubt.
