Middletown, RI (WPRI) - Middletown Officials have proposed a new plan aimed at cutting down on underage drinking. The town plans to use a federal grant to change their alcohol training certificate ordinance to include liquor store employees.
The new rules would force liquor store clerks to undergo the same course servers take called Responsible Beverage Seller Training. The program focuses largely on spotting fake identification. Officials hope the new training will help stop minors from obtaining alcohol.
Middletown currently has the fourth highest underage drinking
rate in the state. The policy change is scheduled to take place
during the next license renewal period in December.
