NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) - A judge presiding a bail hearing for alleged kidnapper David Albanese, 28, ordered him held on $400,000 cash bail Tuesday.

Albanese is accused of kidnapping his son and taking him to Latin America.

Gregg Miliote, a spokesperson for Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter's office, said prosecutors requested $1 million bail because they consider Albanese "a very high flight risk."  Miliote said Albanese has family and a business in Costa Rica.

Acushnet police obtained an arrest warrant for Albanese in September 2006. Acting on that warrant, authorities in Costa Rica arrested him last July.

Miliote said if Albanese posts bail, he would be required to live with a relative in Swansea and be fitted with a GPS monitoring device.  Albanese was transported by U.S. marshals last Friday to Logan Airport.

He was arraigned at New Bedford District Court Monday, and remains at the Dartmouth House of Corrections.
