PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - State police have arrested an alleged Jamaican drug trafficker for possession of over 50 pounds of marijuana.
Police also said Tuesday they charged Orville Watson with possession of a stolen semi-automatic firearm and conspiracy.
Authorities say they began investigating after an informant told them that a North Kingstown woman, Elizabeth Mahoney, was accepting large packages of marijuana for Watson. Mahoney also was charged with marijuana possession, possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy.
Police say they found the marijuana at Watson's house in Providence, along with the firearm, over $6,000 in cash, and drug packaging material.
The two were arraigned Friday and are being held without bail. A police spokesman said he did not immediately know who their lawyers are.
