PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP/WPRI) - House Speaker William Murphy says Rhode Island needs to protect the revenue generated by the Twin River track and slot parlor, and that could include buying the facility.
The Providence Journal reports that the gaming center owes millions to its lenders, and those loans are at the end of January.
Murphy says that the state has "safeguards in place" to protect Twin River. The facility brings in an estimated $250 million in revenue for the state.
Twin River is run by a subsidiary of BLB Management Services, Inc.
