State police are investigating an SUV rollover that killed two women on Route 295 in Johnston Tuesday afternoon.
Early Wednesday morning, police said a third woman passed away. However, Lt. Col. Steven O'Donnell said the woman is, in fact, still alive.
Three children; a one-year old, a two-year old, and an 8-month old were also in the SUV, but State Police say they were strapped into car seats. The children were treated at Hasbro Children's Hospital for bumps and bruises, and released Tuesday evening.
State Police said the Mercedes SUV rolled over just south of the Route 6 on-ramp, between Exits 5 and 6, on Route 295 South around 3 p.m. Tuesday. All three women were ejected during the crash.
Eyewitnesses said the SUV was weaving in and out of traffic shortly before the driver lost control. State Police believe speed may have been a factor, though they have not finished their investigation.
The names of the people involved have not been released.
