PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Lawmakers in the House have approved their version of the supplemental budget.  The spending plan closes a $370 million dollar deficit for this fiscal year.

The House has voted not to raise the gas tax by two cents, but lawmakers voted in favor of raising the cigarette tax by a dollar.

Lawmakers also approved restoring $25 million in state funding for cities and towns that was cut from a $7.2 billion budget proposal. Lawmakers are still continuing to work in approving the supplemental budget.

The budget now heads to the Senate.  If it passes there, it will go the Governor's desk.  Governor Carcieri has not said if he will veto the measure.  However, if he does, there is enough support in the General Assembly for an override.
