FALL RIVER, Mass., (WPRI) - A local couple married in June had quite the wedding party, and the usher, their dog, Comet.

It took months of hard work and nearly 2 hours of training each day. But Amanda and Nelson Carreio were determined to have their dogs in their wedding and the canines stole the show.

Counting is just one of Comet's many tricks. He also waves and oh yes played usher in his owners' wedding.

Nelson Carreio said, “It was just our love to have our dogs in our wedding and the fun part of it was we got to work with a famous trainer."

Zak George was their trainer. He is best known as the host of Animal Planet's show 'Superfetch.' George helped Amanda, who is also a professional dog trainer and her husband Nelson train their pooches to play bridesmaids and usher.

Each dog was dressed from head to paw in canine couture and Comet had the hardest job of all.

"Comet had to learn groom side from bride side. Then he had to walk all the way down the aisle and find the seat where the person was supposed to sit at," said Amanda.

He seated over 80 guests and sat quietly during the entire ceremony. His owners say comet's ushering days are over but the lessons they learned will last a lifetime.

"He’ll learn things in a faster way than what he did before we had this experience with him and I think the same thing goes with all the other dogs our bond has just grown with them," said Amanda.

The couple and their dogs will be on Animal Planet "Doggie Best Man," Saturday, October 31 at 8pm on Animal Planet and re-play on Sunday, November 1 at noon.
