Police are investigating after two teens are killed in car crash on Route 295 near Exit 8 in Smithfield early Wednesday morning.

Eyewitness News has learned that before the deadly crash all four teens had been drinking. Police say the Dodge Stratus veered out of the high-speed lane and into the median. There the vehicle struck a rock ledge and trees.

The victims, Marcello Ventrella of Bellingham and Aram J. Pothier of Blackstone, both 19, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Robert Baez, 19, also of Bellingham, was seriously injured. He is currently at Rhode Island Hospital.

Baez's mother is not only blaming the accident on the teens themselves, but also the establishment where they were served as minors.

"This kid was just starting his life and he said mom what kind of man am I going to be without any legs? He's going to be a man, but a man never walking again, never having a baby, never doing anything, and this could have been prevented. Was he wrong? Yes, he was wrong. He was so wrong. Is he going to pay the price? Yes, he is going to pay the price. We don't know what's going to happen legally in the long run," said Baez's mother, Tammy Cardinal.

Police say it appears as though both speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

"They were at the bar and everybody was extremely drunk. They came out of that bar drunk. My own son told me this. I said why were you driving? And he said cause I was the most sober one," said Cardinal.

Police continue to investigate.
