CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WPRI) - Cumberland Mayor Daniel Mckee joined members of the American Postal Workers Union and the AFL-CIO for an informational picket line.

They were protesting a U-S Postal Service plan to potentially close the Valley Falls Post Office on Broad Street.

It's one of hundreds of post offices around the country being considered for consolidation or closure to save money. The full list is posted online.

Christine Dugas, Postal Service spokeswoman for southeastern New England, says the U.S. Postal Service is looking for ways to consolidate services and Valley Falls is being considered because there are other branches close by.

Dugas has also said that the process is in its early stages and studies will be done to determine the best cost saving measures.

The informational picket took place for much of the day Friday.
