PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Gov. Carcieri stressed the need for tax reform to stimulate the state's economy in a video posted on the Governor's website Thursday. The video outlines three tax reform proposals:phase out of the corporate income tax, personal income tax reform, and increasing the estate tax exemption.
Carcieri said posting the web video allows him to communicate directly with citizens on issues such as taxes and the economy.
"More and more individuals get their news from the web, where it is unfiltered and unedited," he said during the web address. "Rhode Islanders know the cost of high taxes, and they are smart enough to understand the impact high taxes are having on our state's ability to grow revenue and grow jobs."
In the web address, Carcieri said his tax reforms would help bring jobs to the Rhode Island, which he said are needed to get the state through a difficult economy.
"By lowering the death and corporate income taxes, and by reducing the personal income tax brackets, Rhode Island will become competitive and attractive to new and existing businesses," Carcieri said.
The governor also testified before the House Finance Committee Thursday on his tax reform proposals.
