PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The executive director of the U.S. Conference of Mayors says Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to attend the organization’s annual meeting next month in Rhode Island.
Tom Cochran tells The Providence Journal that while Biden accepted an invitation to attend the June 12 through 15 event, President Barack Obama declined.
The meeting will be held in Rhode Island for the first time. Providence Mayor David Cicilline is the president of the National Conference of Democratic Mayors and on the board of the nonpartisan national organization.
Cochran says 163 mayors have registered.
The focus of the meeting will be on how cities plan to use
federal stimulus money, as well as crime, energy
independence, education and the 2010 Census.
