Barrington Teacher honored for work

Hampden Meadows School teacher receives award

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) - A teacher at Hampden Meadows School in Barrington is getting some high marks from a prestigious organization.

Today, Jennifer Theroux, a fifth grade teacher received the Milken Educators Award from the Milken Family Foundation. Theroux was praised on Monday for teaching students with different learning disabilities in the same classroom.

The Barrington native and Roger Williams graduate has been teaching for seven years at the school. Theroux tells Eyewitness News that she plans to use some of the 25-thousand dollar prize money for new books and laptops for the class.

Theroux is one of 80 teachers awarded throughout the country this month.
