Detention hearing to be held Thursday

BOSTON, Mass. (AP/WPRI) - A detention hearing will be held Thursday for a Massachusetts man accused in an alleged terror plot.

Tarek Mehanna, 27, was arrested in October. He and two other men are accused of plotting to kill two prominent U.S. politicians, and also planning to shoot people at shopping malls.

Federal prosecutors are expected to argue that Mehanna be held without bail because of the severity of charges he is facing.

Mehanna is a college graduate of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy.

Defense lawyers insist Mehanna is not a danger to the community, nor is he a flight risk. His attorneys also say that he would agree to a 24-hour home confinement if released while he awaits trial.
