WARWICK, RI (WPRI) - Parents in Warwick are outraged over a level-three sex offender living near schools. But police are now trying to calm their worries.

Level-three sex offender are the most dangerous because they are most likely to re-offend. Parents are not only concerned because this person moved into their neighborhood, but also because some of them were not notified.

Police tried to calm parent's fears with a meeting at the Warwick police station.

The sex offenders home is in a neighborhood filled with children, and is less than a half mile from Toll Gate High School, Winman Junior High School, and Drum Rock Elementary.

Warwick police sent out around 2000 letters to parents, but many never got them. They heard about the sex offender and the meeting by word of mouth.

Police now say they will work closely with schools, and use a reverse 911 system to alert parents. Despite the glitches, parents feel the police department is doing the best they can, and that nothing will take the place of good old fashioned parenting.

Rhode Island law states sex offenders must live at least 300 feet away from schools.
